Speech Language Pathologist - Grade II - Sole Charge

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Speech Language Pathologist is responsible to assess, develop and implement individual and group intervention programs to ensure optimum client care for assigned caseload. The Speech Language Pathologist works within the guidelines established in the Child Development Centre Policy and Procedure manual and adheres to and abides by the regulations stipulated by Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC). The Speech Language Pathologist may be responsible for the supervision of up to 2 FTE of other non paramedical staff (i.e.: Speech Language Assistant).

Job Summary
Responsibilities & Abilities:

  • Coordinates and prioritizes referrals in a time effective manner
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff and students within the Speech Language Pathology department and participates in professional development as funding allows
  • Assists with budget management and long-term planning, in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Documents client care activities in files according to established guidelines
  • Participates in a multi-disciplinary, family centered approach to service delivery by providing direct and consultative services to children, their parents, and other services providers.
  • Acts as a member of a multi-disciplinary team by consulting with other team members as appropriate and attending team meetings, family conferences, etc. as required
  • Delivers feeding and swallowing therapy in conjunction with the occupational therapist to provide direct and consultative therapy to children and their families
  • Completes statistical data as required
  • Assists the Executive Director with preparation and submission of proposals for funding, staffing, equipment, and new programs
  • Submits recommendations to the Executive Director into the development and revision of policies and procedures relating to the department and the Centre
  • Maintains the physical area and equipment in the Speech Language Pathology department and reports needs to the Executive Director
  • Provides educational information to other facilities and the public at large
  • Maintains good communication with all personnel and agencies associated with the Child Development Centre
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from a recognized tertiary institution
  • Registered to practice in BC with the College of Speech-and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia.
  • Directly related clinical experience working with young children with developmental delays, their families, and other professionals, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Must hold a valid B.C. driver’s license and have own vehicle
  • Must be willing to have a Criminal Records Review
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to be self-directed, motivated, and work independently
  • Have strong interpersonal skills with children, families, staff, and others
  • Be sensitive and have a non-judgmental attitude toward children and families
  • Ability to work from a family-centered model 6. Ability to plan and organize
  • Ability to physically perform duties of the position
